Kristina Gratton

Kristina Gratton is the owner and head trainer at Fauntleroy Farm. Kristina adheres to a positive, fundamentals-based teaching style underpinned by a focus on horsemanship and attention to detail.

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Kristina discovered her passion for horses as a young child. She first learned to ride on her father's Quarter Horses and transitioned to ponies at age 4, moving up the ranks from ponies through the junior hunters, jumpers, and equitation. Kristina competed on the ‘A’ and ‘AA’ USEF/USHJA circuit on the West and East Coasts, Midwest, and Florida, qualifying for the Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunt Seat Medal Finals, ASPCA Maclay NW Regional Championship, USET West Coast Finals, and Junior Hunter National Championship - West Coast as a junior rider. Kristina currently enjoys competing client horses in the hunter and jumper rings as well as spending time in the Grand Prix ring developing high level jumpers for sale.

Kristina’s teaching philosophy has been developed through many years of training and working with top hunter, jumper, and equitation riders, trainers, and judges across the United States.

Kristina’s professional years include 6 years with Cara Anthony at Potcreek Meadow Farm in Redmond, WA; 2 years with Bill Schaub at Over the Hill Farm in Sanford, FL; 5 years with Patty Foster and Marylisa Leffler at Rolling Acres Show Stables in Olney, MD; and 2 years with Colin and Toni McIntosh at McIntosh Stables USA in Menlo Park, CA. Kristina credits these experiences with expanding her horsemanship and riding skills and providing a strong base of mentors and advisors.

Fauntleroy Farm’s training program is focused on developing novice through advanced child and adult riders to their full potential – whether in the hunter, jumper, equitation, or collegiate (NCAA or IHSA) arena.  Kristina approaches horseback riding as a sport where horse and rider are both athletes that are trained and coached as such. Kristina strives to integrate horsemanship and attention to detail into daily barn activities and lessons, through positive fundamentals-based instruction and focus on discipline.  She seeks to foster a team environment and facilitate effective communication between horses and riders to maximize skills and performance.

Prior to establishing Fauntleroy Farm, Kristina attended Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Political Science. During this time she ran NCAA Division II Cross Country and was a member of Rollins’ NCAA Division II Varsity Rowing Team. Kristina then attended Georgetown University for graduate school, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with an MA in International Relations, which led to a career as an Operations Officer for the U.S. Government. Kristina enjoys combining her experience both inside and outside the arena to develop horses and riders to their full potential.
